The Nebraska School Activity Association on Wednesday released event heat and lane assignments for the state swimming and diving championships to be held next week. Seven Omaha North High swimmers earned entry into individual events to compete in the preliminaries on Friday, February 26, at Bob Devaney Sports Center. Each event is limited to 32 individuals from across the state’s 40 teams representing 64 high schools. All seven Viking swimmers who qualified in 2021 also appeared in individual events at the 2020 state championships. Vikings qualifying for individual events are:
Lauren Sitzman: 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke
Ben Mills: 200 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle
Nate Schlader: 100 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke
Davion Scott-Bell: 200 Individual Medley and 100 Breaststroke
Caiden Williams: 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke
Richard Throckmorton: 200 Individual Medley and 100 Breaststroke
Seamus Cavanaugh: 100 Breaststroke
Six other Vikings will join the individual qualifiers to form the relay teams: State meet veterans Teresa Gibbons and Vienne Kemper, along with first-time state participants Molly Burk, Sofia Acosta, Darden Tetley and John Dawes.
The top 16 times from preliminary races in each event on Friday advance to compete in the finals on Saturday, February 27. Saturday’s finals will be broadcast live on NET television and online at netnebraska.org.
