Featuring two swims approaching the best times in school history, the Vikings’ boys swim team topped four other teams to repeat as Brownell Talbot/Concordia/Mercy/Roncalli Invitational champions Saturday afternoon, January 9.
Davion Scott-Bell won the 100 Butterfly, earning his 4th state secondary qualifying time of the season and moving up to 5th on the Vikings’ all-time list for the event. In winning the 500 Freestyle, Ben Mills swam the 3rd fastest time in school history by a Viking boy, just 2 seconds behind the school record he set at the Metro Conference meet last February.
Richard Throckmorton earned his first state secondary times of the season with a 2nd place finish in the 100 Breaststroke and a 3rd place finish in the 200 Individual Medley. Nate Schlader and Caiden Williams placed 2nd and 3rd in the 100 Freestyle, each earning their second state secondary time of the season. Darden Tetley posted another career-best in the 200 Freestyle, placing 4th.
In the morning session, Lauren Sitzman won the 200 Freestyle, placed 3rd in the 100 Freestyle, and anchored the 200 Medley Relay that placed second and the 200 Freestyle Relay that posted a season-best time. Relay team members also placed in individual events: Vienne Kemper placed 2nd in the backstroke, just ahead of Teresa Gibbons’ 3rd place finish. Gibbons also placed 3rd in the 100 Butterfly. Sofia Acosta posted season-best times in both of her individual events.
With the conference meet a month away, the six seniors on the team will be honored Tuesday, January 12, during the last home meet of the season, a triangular meet with Omaha Northwest and Omaha Central.
