After winning three invitational meets at the end of last season, the Vikings boys added more hardware to the trophy case by winning the 2020-21 season’s first invitational on Saturday, December 12. With 7 event wins and a total of 8 swimmers placing in the top 3 of at least one event, the Vikings won the 8-team Benson SwimVite for the first time in the meet’s 10-year history.
Four Vikings earned their first state secondary cuts of the season. Junior Ben Mills earned two state secondary cuts while winning the 50 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle. Seamus Cavanaugh, a senior, won the 100 Breaststroke with a secondary cut. Also earning their first state secondary cuts of the season, while placing second, were senior Nate Schlader (50 Freestyle) and junior Caiden Williams (100 Butterfly). Williams (200 Free) and Schlader (100 Free) won their other individual event, but not yet earning a secondary cut.
The Vikings won the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay, while placing second in the 200 Freestyle Relay.
Other individuals placing in the top 4 of individual events were:
Noah Richardson (3rd in both the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle)
Richard Throckmorton (2nd in 100 Breast and 4th in 200 IM)
Davion Scott-Bell (2nd in 100 Free and 3rd in 200 IM)
Darden Tetley (3rd in 100 Backstroke)
The Vikings’ boys’ and girls’ teams are scheduled to return to competition on Saturday, January 2, at the Omaha Public Schools Invitational at Omaha Burke High.
