Coed Varsity Swimming · VIKINGS BOYS & GIRLS BREAK MEET RECORDS, TEAMS FINISH 1st, 2nd AT BTCMR INVITATIONAL


The Vikings’ swimmers broke three meet records at the Brownell Talbot/Concordia/Mercy/Roncalli Invitational on Saturday, February 1.   The boys’ Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle relay teams set meet records in winning both events on their way to winning the team event for the second year in a row. Sophomore Ben Mills won the boys’ 500 Freestyle with the 4th fastest time in Vikings’ boys’ history, earning a state secondary cut in his third event this season.  Other top finishes by Viking boys:

Caiden Williams 1st, 200 Freestyle ; 2nd, 100 Butterfly

Richard Throckmorton 2nd, 200 Individual Medley

Nate Schlader 1st, 100 Backstroke; 2nd, 50 Freestyle

Davion Scott-Bell 2nd, 100 Breaststroke

The Vikings girls finished  2nd in team scoring, outscoring four other OPS schools and one from Lincoln Public Schools.  The girls’ Medley Relay posted a season-best time with their 1st place finish.  Also placing first was the 200 Freestyle Relay.   Lauren Sitzman won the 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke, breaking the meet record  for backstroke and finishing just ahead of teammate Teresa Gibbons.   AJ Fox and Teresa finished 1-2 in the 100 Freestyle.   AJ added a 2nd place finish in the 50 Freestyle.

Next Saturday, the Vikings compete at the Bellevue East Chieftain Invitational, the final meet before the Metro Conference Championships.
