Both the Omaha North Vikings Girls & Boys Swim teams opened the 2019-20 season among the six teams competing at the 9th annual Benson SWIMvite on December 7. The boys finished second while the girls placed fifth in the team standings.
Three sophomores led the way with secondary state qualifying times. On the girls’ side, Lauren Sitzman entered the Vikings’ all-time Top 10 backstroke times with her second place finish in the event. Davion Scott-Bell won the boys’ 100 Breaststroke and finished in third in the 200 Individual Medley. Both times also place him in the North High Top 4 all-time in these events. Ben Mills placed second in the 50 Freestyle. Scott-Bell and Mills were joined by fellow sophomore Caiden Williams and 11th grader Nate Schlader on the 200 Medley Relay with a secondary state qualifying time.
Schlader placed second in the 100 Freestyle and third in the 50 Freestyle. Williams placed fourth in both the 200 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly. Richard Throckmorton earned fourth place in the 100 Breaststroke and fifth in the 200 IM. Other boys scoring points for the team were Karson Swartzbaugh, Darden Tetley, Edgar Salcedo Gomez, Seamus Cavanaugh, Kevin Vitamvas, Eric Manuel, Connor Harrision, and Lawrence Williams.
For the girls, Sitzman also placed second in the 200 Freestyle. AJ Fox placed third in both the 50 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke. Teresa Gibbons was third place in the 100 Freestyle and fourth place in the 100 Butterfly. Other Viking girls scoring points for the team were Maecyn Sieborg, Isabel Kolb and Yasmine Alhejaj.
The Vikings host a triangular meet on Tuesday, December 10 against Omaha Northwest and Omaha Benson. The Vikings boys compete again on Wednesday night at the Omaha Bryan Invitational. The Vikings girls swim at the Omaha Bryan Invitational on Saturday morning.
