VIKINGS BOYS 1st, GIRLS 2nd AT BTCMR INVITATIONAL
Two days after sweeping a double dual against Omaha South and Omaha Bryan, the Vikings’ swim teams nearly swept the BTCMR Invitational. The Vikings boys’ swim team won their first invitational since 2014, out-pointing 7 other teams at the Brownell Talbot/Concordia/Mercy/Roncalli Invitational on Saturday, January 26. Davion Scott-Bell’s earned his first secondary state qualifying time of the year with his 2nd place performance in the 100 Breaststroke. Liam Murray won the 100 Freestyle and 50 Freestyle. Scott-Bell and Murray teamed with Nate Schlader and Connor Harrison to win the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay. Dominick Bartels won the 200 Freestyle. Schlader placed 2nd behind Murray in the 50 Freestyle.
The Vikings girls finished second, edged for the team championship by one-half point. Vienne Kemper won the 200 IM and defended her 2018 BTCMR title in the 100 Butterfly. Lauren Sitzman and Teresa Gibbons finished 1-2 in the 100 Backstroke, then teamed with Vienne Kemper and Ann Fox to win the 400 Freestyle Relay. Julienne Kemper finished 2nd in both the 200 Free and 100 Breaststroke. The 200 Medley Relay of Gibbons, Kemper, Kemper and Fox placed 2nd. Other runner-up individual finishes were Emma Craig in the 200 IM and Fox in the 100 Freestyle.
Next Saturday, the Vikings compete in the Bellevue East Chieftain Invitational, the final tune up before the Metro Conference Championships.
