Both the Vikings’ boys and girls teams placed 11th out of 16 teams at the 2018 Metropolitan High School Conference Championships on Saturday, February 10 held at Millard West High School. Junior Liam Murray led the Vikings boys’ team with an 8th place finish in the 50 Freestyle and 10th place in the 100 Freestyle.
Ninth grader Vienne Kemper placed 5th in the 100 Butterfly and 10th in the 200 Individual Medley. She anchored the 400 Freestyle Relay where Anna Kay Sitzman, Ann Fox, and Julienne Kemper combined to improve their state qualifying time by over 4 seconds, finishing 10th. In the 50 Freestyle preliminaries, 10th grader Ann Fox achieved her first career secondary state qualifying time.
Vienne leads the Vikings with five individual automatic state qualifying times and must decide with Head Coach Sean Froemming which two individual events to enter at the state championships. Anna Kay Sitzman, Ann Fox, Liam Murray and Nick Hausman will learn later this week if their secondary qualifying times rank in the top 30 individual seeds for the state swimming championships.
In the final meet of the year for most of the team members swimming in individual events, personal record times were posted by many Vikings:
