BELLEVUE EAST INVITE RECAP
Three Vikings’ girls’ swimmers won individual events and all three girls’ relays placed second, leading the Vikings girls to a 2nd place team finish at the 7-team Bellevue East Chieftain Invitational on Saturday, February 3. Ann Fox captured her first invitational individual event victory of the season by touching the wall first in the 50 Freestyle. Ninth grader Vienne Kemper rocketed to victory in the 500 Freestyle, bettering her career-best by 26 seconds in the event and earning an automatic state qualifying time in her fifth individual event. Vienne also won the 100 Butterfly. Anna Kay Sitzman finished 1st in her final individual 100 backstroke of her high school career.
The boys team placed 3rd overall, edged out of 2nd place in the team standings when diving results were added to team scores. Invitational champions included the 400 Freestyle Relay and two individuals: Liam Murray won the 100 Freestyle and Nick Hausman won the 50 Freestyle. Lee Yoder won the 200 Freestyle and placed 2nd in the 500 Freestyle.
Other Vikings earning points for the team in individual events included: Julienne Kemper (2nd in 200 Free), Gabby Push (5th in 200 Free and 3rd in 100 Back), Emma Craig (5th in Individual Medley), Julia Haas (8th in Individual Medley), Natalie Hausman (4th in 50 Free and 5th in 100 Free), Teresa Gibbons (8th in 100 Free)
Dominick Bartels (3rd in 200 Free and 4th in 100 Fly), Jon Stanton (5th in Individual Medley), Nate Schlader (7th in 100 Free), Connor (7th in 100 Fly), Tyler Stone (5th in 100 Breast), Richard Throckmorton (7th in 100 Breast).
The Vikings next compete at the Metro Conference Championships at Millard West High School, February 9-10. Girls’ preliminaries are on Friday morning followed by the boys’ preliminaries on Friday afternoon. Girls’ and Boys’ Finals will take place in one session on Saturday.
